This beautiful collaboration with Julia Billings from Woollenflower textile studio in Glasgow, came about after we met at various yarn festivals and discovered a mutual admiration for our work and goods.

With a focus on naturally-dyed yarn and threads for handcraft, horticulturalist and dyer Julia (Jules) hopes to expand the commonly-held view that natural dyes give mostly soft yellows and browns and to create a range of colours that inspire people to see plant dyes differently.

After our debut collaboration in 2022, which was a fast sell out,
Jules has continued to create new collections for us every year.

For Spring 2024, you can choose from:

Spring! The Flora of Spring : a bright and cheery collection of warm and cool greens, pinks and corals, with added splashes of rich gold and cream.
Dyed with cochineal (insect derived), cow parsley, goldenrod, indigo, rhubarb and weld.

Pastels of Languedoc : a knocked back palette of soft greys, pinks, ochres and blues, evocative of the soft hues of south west France.
Dyed with cherry, cochineal (insect derived), goldenrod, horsetail, indigo, madder, oak and weld.

The threads are most suitable for embroidery and hand stitching.  They work beautifully on linen, canvas, cotton, felt and wool as well as on knitted wool fabrics.  Each selection of 12 balls has been hand-packed in acid free tissue and a beautiful and sustainable embossed Beyond Measure board storage box which can be re-used for many years.

Thread: Appleton’s Crewel Wool, 2-ply 100% wool sourced and processed in Britain and dyed in Glasgow. Very gentle hand wash only in lukewarm water, natural dry. Do not wring or use direct heat.

Box: embossed sturdy kraft card, made in the UK.

Meterage: 36 m/ 5 gm ball x 12 per box .  Box size 15 x 22 x 7 cm.
